The time someone asked me to do something I had no business doing

Hey gorgeous,

Do you know how many potential clients you have in your own network?

I know networking sounds like having to wait for a whole year after the book in your new favorite book series ends on a cliffhanger.

I’m not talking about going to network events because that’s also something I’ve never done before.

One of the first things I did to look for clients as a beginning VA was emailing my own network.

Because there are so many people already in your network. Maybe your hairdresser is looking for someone or the owner of your favorite bookstore or restaurant or your cousin.

Anyway— back to me emailing my own network.

I was sitting behind my laptop crafting the perfect email. I was still very much in my perfectionism stage. So there was a lot of rewriting and not a lot of actually clicking the send button.

I wrote that I just started my VA business and the services I offered. I ended the email with the question if she would love the talk about me supporting her.

It was short but sweet.

A day later, she responded that she was having all these plans for her business. Plans I had no business doing, hahaha.

She wanted to create an online course for her clients and asked if I could help her with that.

Now that’s something I can do in my sleep, but back then I had no idea how to do that.

But instead of saying no because it wasn’t something I hadn’t done before and I was scared I would fuck it up, I said yes, I would love to.

I did tell her that I had never done that before because I think you always have to be honest about that.

But she also didn’t know and had no time to figure it out.

She became my first client.
I didn’t have an extensive portfolio. I didn’t even have experience with this. But she still hired me based on the relationship we had.

Learning new skills is one of my favorite things to do, and that’s something we do in the WolfPack Membership.

The WolfPack is a virtual assistant membership designed for introverted VAs who need a supportive space (and a little push) to actually land clients—while learning high-value skills that bring in more money.

Love, Marit

Hey gorgeous, Yes, shit happens. We’re just human, right? We may be (recovering)perfectionists, but we still make mistakes. When I read the email from my client that something wasn’t going the way it was supposed to go, I felt a heat moving to my face. My first instinct was to come up with an excuse that made it not my fault. But what’s the point of that? I made that mistake. So, what did I do… It was the first time I created a challenge for her. I set up a webinar series in a webinar tool....

Hey gorgeous, Yeah, you read that right. I lost my biggest client. I know exactly where I was at that moment. I was behind my desk. Now, I’m sitting with my back to the wall, but back then I was facing that same wall. She called me. I don’t know if she asked via email if she could call me or if she just called me. She didn’t want to do it via email, which I very much appreciate, but when someone says they don’t want to work with you anymore, your brain kicks into overdrive. It wasn’t that I...

Hey gorgeous, I started my journey as a VA offering admin services. It’s what I have done my whole working life. I even sold cars. I didn’t know anything about cars. My only demand for my car was that it brought me to where I wanted to go. And for some reason, all my cars were black. Even the car I share with my parents right now is black. But I worked in the back office of a company that sold cars. One of the perks was that I could travel to Bordeaux, France, for work. I never had that...
