They keep asking me to show a portfolio…

Hey gorgeous,

More and more, I hear from virtual assistants that their potential clients ask for their portfolio. And what the fuck do you do when you don’t have any or that much clients.

By the way, I have never been asked to show a portfolio. But it’s better to be safe than sorry, right? So, I’m going to help you figure this out.

When you don’t have any clients yet or when you have 1 or 2, you can still create an amazing portfolio. You are going to use your own VA business and fake businesses. Not businesses that already exist and you haven’t worked for, of course.

When you are an Admin VA, you can create a new Gmail address and showcase, for instance, your inbox management skills or how you would organise a business Cloud.

When you are doing Social Media or any other creative service, you can use your own social media platform, or you can create posts for one of the fake businesses you made up, or you can create a mockup of an Instagram or Pinterest feed in Canva.

You can use your own website or create a website mockup in Canva.

For services that have to do with podcast management or video editing. You can record your own podcast or video and show what you would do with it by creating a Loom video.

Make it a portfolio sales page, like the image below.

In the Couch Potato Clarity, a diy virtual assistant course for introverts who want to become a VA, I’ve dedicated a whole lesson to this.

This course will give you the confidence to start accepting clients. Even if you don’t have a portfolio yet!

I would love to support you in any way I can on your VA journey.

Love,
Marit

Hey Reader, When I just started my business in 2017, I thought I needed sooooo many clients to make enough money. I saw myself working 40 hours plus a week. That would have been the case if I had kept working as a general VA who only did projects. The moment I decided to pivot my business to being a tech & ops specialist was the moment I started signing clients who wanted to work with me month after month and wanted to pay good money for it. As a tech & ops specialist, you definitely can work...

Hey Reader, When I just started out as a VA, I thought I needed to work 40 hours a week. Because I thought that was the only way to make a full-time income. I spent all my time searching for clients, and if I wasn’t doing that, I felt guilty. I was making no money at all until I signed my first client. But she only needed me for a project, so while I worked on her online course, I also had to look for new clients. Maybe you know this feeling: you’re so happy you’ve found a client, but after...
