The time my biggest client broke up with me

Hey gorgeous,

Yeah, you read that right. I lost my biggest client.

I know exactly where I was at that moment.

I was behind my desk. Now, I’m sitting with my back to the wall, but back then I was facing that same wall.

She called me. I don’t know if she asked via email if she could call me or if she just called me.

She didn’t want to do it via email, which I very much appreciate, but when someone says they don’t want to work with you anymore, your brain kicks into overdrive.

It wasn’t that I didn’t do a great job; she was going in another direction. So, there wasn’t much I could do about it, right?

She wanted to grow, so she hired a coach, and with that coach, there was also a VA. So, she was going to take over my tasks.

When we hung up the phone, I had to cry for a bit. She was my biggest client, and I was losing 25% of my revenue.

But I wasn’t mad at her. It was just something that happened. Clients come and go.

My contract has a month-long cancellation period, so during that month, I had to create a lot of SOPs.

Everything I did for her was in my head.
Not the greatest thing to do as a VA. Because it gets crowded, hahaha.

I had to deal with that loss on my own. At the moment, I didn’t have a business coach or was part of a community.

I wish I were because having the possibility to share this with people who also understand this would have been amazing. That’s one of the reasons I created the WolfPack Membership. So, you don’t have to deal with this alone.

And you know what happened; before the month was up, I already had two new clients lined up that covered the loss.

I’m a big believer that when something happens, you have space for new, exciting stuff.

Love, Marit

Ps. She came back btw. After 3 months, she found that my knowledge was irreplaceable. So, that says something about me and how important it is to deliver excellent service to a client.

Hey gorgeous, Yes, shit happens. We’re just human, right? We may be (recovering)perfectionists, but we still make mistakes. When I read the email from my client that something wasn’t going the way it was supposed to go, I felt a heat moving to my face. My first instinct was to come up with an excuse that made it not my fault. But what’s the point of that? I made that mistake. So, what did I do… It was the first time I created a challenge for her. I set up a webinar series in a webinar tool....

Hey gorgeous, I started my journey as a VA offering admin services. It’s what I have done my whole working life. I even sold cars. I didn’t know anything about cars. My only demand for my car was that it brought me to where I wanted to go. And for some reason, all my cars were black. Even the car I share with my parents right now is black. But I worked in the back office of a company that sold cars. One of the perks was that I could travel to Bordeaux, France, for work. I never had that...

Hey gorgeous, Do you know how many potential clients you have in your own network? I know networking sounds like having to wait for a whole year after the book in your new favorite book series ends on a cliffhanger. I’m not talking about going to network events because that’s also something I’ve never done before. One of the first things I did to look for clients as a beginning VA was emailing my own network. Because there are so many people already in your network. Maybe your hairdresser is...
