Did you know I sold cars in a former life…

Hey gorgeous,

I started my journey as a VA offering admin services. It’s what I have done my whole working life.

I even sold cars. I didn’t know anything about cars. My only demand for my car was that it brought me to where I wanted to go. And for some reason, all my cars were black. Even the car I share with my parents right now is black.

But I worked in the back office of a company that sold cars. One of the perks was that I could travel to Bordeaux, France, for work. I never had that privilege before.

I was the tester for a new software program they were rolling out, and I had to go to the headquarters to get that started.

I remember the first time that I was there. There were a couple of colleagues from other countries as well, and on our first night there, we went out to dinner.

Not everybody went, so I ended up as the only woman at the table.

One of the men who was also working on the project was going to be late. We were sitting at a table talking, and I was the furthest away from the door.

All of a sudden, he comes walking to our table and starts to shake hands with the other men. I was getting up to do the same, but instead of shaking my hand, he kissed me on the cheek.

And all the other men at the table started laughing because they all saw the look on my face. Because all the while he was coming towards me, I was thinking, what the hell is he doing?

It totally slipped my mind that this is common practice in France.

And every time after that, I was greeted with two kisses on the cheek by all the colleagues I had contact with at headquarters. Mind you, they did that every single day when they started their workday.

I have so many stories to tell about my time in Bordeaux, but I wanted to write about how I pivoted my VA business.

I started by offering admin services in my VA business because I thought that would be the easiest way to transition.

But I actually didn’t really like offering these services. I did like creating an online course for my first client. I also loved creating my own website.

With my first recurring client, I also got to do a lot of technical things. I’d never done that before I started my VA business. Didn’t even know there was such a thing as an email marketing tool.

However, I kept offering these admin services until my client asked me why I was still doing that, because I clearly liked tech and processes more.

So, it was someone else observing this and telling me that got me pivoting my VA business to offering tech and process services.

As a business owner, you have the right to pivot in your business. That can be adding new services, dropping services, or doing something completely different.

That’s what the WolfPack is also for— asking your questions about this, getting support with learning new skills, and empowering you on how to tell your clients about your new adventure.

Love, Marit

Hey gorgeous, Yes, shit happens. We’re just human, right? We may be (recovering)perfectionists, but we still make mistakes. When I read the email from my client that something wasn’t going the way it was supposed to go, I felt a heat moving to my face. My first instinct was to come up with an excuse that made it not my fault. But what’s the point of that? I made that mistake. So, what did I do… It was the first time I created a challenge for her. I set up a webinar series in a webinar tool....

Hey gorgeous, Yeah, you read that right. I lost my biggest client. I know exactly where I was at that moment. I was behind my desk. Now, I’m sitting with my back to the wall, but back then I was facing that same wall. She called me. I don’t know if she asked via email if she could call me or if she just called me. She didn’t want to do it via email, which I very much appreciate, but when someone says they don’t want to work with you anymore, your brain kicks into overdrive. It wasn’t that I...

Hey gorgeous, Do you know how many potential clients you have in your own network? I know networking sounds like having to wait for a whole year after the book in your new favorite book series ends on a cliffhanger. I’m not talking about going to network events because that’s also something I’ve never done before. One of the first things I did to look for clients as a beginning VA was emailing my own network. Because there are so many people already in your network. Maybe your hairdresser is...
